An Intro to Norman Blake's Style.
Norman Blake is the Earl Scruggs of solo flatpicking—the
guy who split the stylistic atom and was able to communicate simple melodies in driving and syncopated new ways. Using
my arrangement of the Civil War-era tune Lorena, we'll look
at how melody notes interspersed with bursts of crosspicking
and select mid-solo strums can set us squarely on the road to Blakeville.
