Flatpicking Guitar Network

For Fans of Flatpicking Guitar Magazine

Hello all, I'm looking for anyone in the central Alabama area that would like to get together and jam. I live halfway between Birmingham and Tuscaloosa, just south of I-59 in Woodstock, Alabama. I consider myself an intermediate-level guitarist, but a beginner-level flatpicker. I love to pick and sing bluegrass, old-time, country, etc., and I'm looking for more opportunities to get together with like-minded folks in my area.

Phillip, any relation to Tom Dooley, "hang down your head, Tom Dooley......". He's burried in Alabama I think!mi read an article not long back, and,......oh, I think, Not Alabama but near Merlfest, along a Mainnhwy leading out of where the festival is held! Tom was messin with someone else's Wife, they hung him! So the story goes...

I'm a beginner picker off I 20 on the Coosa River between atl & Bham, if anyone wants to get together, would love to pick with someone......
I am in central alabama near Montgomery. I am really a beginner started about 5 months ago. I like the old country music, Carter Family style and Hank Williams. I started to teach myself with a Hal Leonard video. It started out teaching me to read a little music and play melodys. I think now that was a mistake because I am having a time with learning to strum. At this point I probably need to get a teacher.

"I recently came across a steel string parlor guitar made by P. Benson, in Minneapolis.  It's really a nice little instrument--well built, comfortable, very much like an old Martin 00-18 (mahogany, slotted headstock, pyramid bridge, ladder…"

"My gear is much better than my skill - for straight flatpickin', I play a Martin D-18 Authentic 1937. My go-to guitar for just about everything else (and it flatpicks just fine, thank you) is my Huss & Dalton D-RH with a Red Spruce top.…"
