Flatpicking Guitar Network

For Fans of Flatpicking Guitar Magazine

Hi all...I'm new to this space, and to flatpicking. I've been playing guitar and performing for 25 years, but have only recently decided to stop strumming Manzanita and instead to try and learn to pick it. I have soooo many questions!! Where to start?! I'll just ramble, stream of semi-consciousness: What are the best resources to help me on this journey? Has anyone been to Rockygrass? Is it as absurdly cool as it appears from a distance?? If I like Manzanita and Gasology, who are some other artists that I might enjoy? (I'm an old Deadhead and Miles Davis fan) Thanks!! Dan

hey Dan, welcome to our flatpicking world!
Hey Dan,

Welcome aboard, from Stanwood, WA.

Oh, man, there is so much fantastic music being played by super-talented/creative acoustic musicians! It is tremendous fun discovering new music.

My suggestion is to check out the other musicians on those albums. That will lead you to many more fine albums.

As a Deadhead, you may be familiar with David Grisman. Listen to everything with his name on it. Check out Bela Fleck and Sam Bush.

Plug those three names and 'Tony Rice' into Pandora.com and you'll hear tons of great music.
