Bourgeois DB Signature

Just purchased my first Bourgeois, after many months of research and searching for just the right one I decided on a DB Signeture Adi/Madagascar. I am anxiously awaiting its arrival from NewYork. More one this as soon as get to play it a little. Any others out there just picking up new guitars for Christmas or New Years?

Thanks, been around for awhile now. Just received it yesterday, no freezing weather around so out it came. I already expected a beautiful instrument from the store pictures and they were true to life. After a quick tune up the playing time started. It is a very loud and powerful instrument, lows are very strong not boomy, mids are very pleasing not over-powering, highs are very pronounced all the way up the neck. The action was a little high and I will get that adjusted today after it has had a little time to acclimate.

Tell us a little about your research ... why Bourgeois?  Why this model? Wood choice ect?

Where to start? I never have been a real big fan of mass produced guitars, not to say there are many great ones out there but not for me. I started flat picking last year with my McPherson and it did just fine but I wanted something with a little more growl in it to really capture the experience called "bluegrass". I don't know if that makes any sense or not. I started looking at all the big players and which brands they were using, tried the Martins, Taylors, Santa Cruz, Gibsons, etc... that I could get my hands one but nothing hit the mark for me. I pretty much chose the Bourgeios before I ever played one since I really enjoy listening to everyone that plays them professionally. Bryan Suttan, Scott Fore, Cody Kilby, Ricky Skaggs, Dan Tyminski, Ron Block, and Bob Miner to mention a few. Who could go wrong with that crowd? I originally was going for the Vintage D, but the extra appoimtments the Signature had on it made the sell. (Snakewood peg heads, Koa binding just to name a few) Wood selection was easy, who could go wrong with Adirondack and Madagascar rosewood? Would like a fancy Brazilion one of these days, but didn't see the advantage at this time. Dana beleieves that the Mad. is the closest thing so I am good with that. It sounds amazing and sure it can only get better.

As soon as I pulled this guitar out of the case I knew I would be keeping it. The craftsmanship was exactly what I would expect. I did not see one flaw inside or out! The action is a bit high for me compared to my McPherson and I will be getting that adjusted soon. I am a little rusty with the whole truss rod adjustments, McPherson does not have and adjustable rod or does it need one.

Man, what an instrument it is! All the research and waiting paid off. It is very loud and powerful, lows are very strong not boomy, mids are very pleasing not over-powering, highs are very pronounced all the way up the neck. I can't wait to get recording with this.

Sorry about the slow response, I couldnt be pulled away from playing the Bourgeois. Yes it was new, I saw several used instruments online but this one called out to me so I bought it. I tried several Collings guitars from different stores, some in Texas, Arizona, and California. Although I did like them, it just didn't feel right. I would love to have a Texas made guitar to stay true to my state but the Bourgeois took them hands down. After playing this guitar for the last 9 months I know I made the right decision. I have had to adjust the truss rod a few times, reasonable since I travel so much. I know, I must be crazy to carry this with me but I have always taken my guitar with me. I still bring my McPherson and my Tele with me everywhere I go. You never know what or where you will be. This guitar just keeps getting better, after 12 sets of strings so far the sound and tone are improving with every set. I have played in several jam sessions with no problem being heard in the mix, what an awesome guitar!
