For Fans of Flatpicking Guitar Magazine

Hi All,

Need some input here. I have a Kyser Quick Change and then I bought a Schubb when I picked up the guitar. The Schubb is slick, but the bottom clamping doesn't really grab the bottom of the neck, it's more over to one side of the V. The further up the neck I go, the worse it is and the capo actually pulls the strings to that side. The Kyser works OK, but it's so obnoxious looking and the spring tension is more than it needs to be.

So what do you all use on your V shaped necks?

Believe it or not, I love the G7 capos for a V neck. Plus the cam action is way smooth. The rubber that goes against the neck is designed to conform to a variety of necks. Check them out, as I know you will love them.
Dave,
Mckinney-Elliot makes a great capo. I personally use a Showcase. They are really similar. They are around $115, but i think that they are worth it. I was worried about losing it but i have had it around four years. I used to spend a lot more that $115 in that time period due to losing the cheap ones. Both of these capos sound really open when applied. I tried Paige and Schubb and it didn't fit the vintage neck right. These will fit.

Dave, I have a few extra G7 capos. Send me your address to my page as a privat note, and I'll send one to you. Hope you enjoy it.
The best capos I have seen for the V necks are the Dan Crary capo and the Elliott. All are listed in order of price. I sell the Crary Capos for about $64, and I dont sell the Elliott capos but they run about $115 shipped. Both are somewhat similar in design and fit the V neck well. The Crary and Elliott are of upmost quality.

Bob mentioned the G7th capo which work well too for V necks. I just think they are somewhat fragile in the wrong hands.

Digging up an old thread here, but why start a brand new one on the same topic?

Has anyone tried the John Pearse Ol' Reliable capo? I hope they work well fo V-shaped necks, because my wife has one ordered for me, due to arrive in January. Apparently, they were back-ordered and they couldn't deliver it by Christmas. Also, she said she found out the price has now doubled.
my shubb works just fine on my two Mod V necks. I have a D18VS and a Recording King with matching necks and it works perfectly for me. I also use the Planet Waves NS capo which is my fav.
I second the G7 for a V neck. I have a HD-28V and it works great.
Well, I haven't yet received my Ol' Reliable Capo. Hopefully, it will come soon. I'm tired of my Kyser. BTW, my guitar is a D28-CW.
I'm with Marv. I use a Dan Crary capo on my Martin with the V neck - really works great.

I've recently started using the Paige Vintage/Wide Guitar Capo (Item #P-6E-W at First Quality). It's been working just fine for me on my D-18GE with the 1 3/4" wide "modified V neck", and it's only $16.95. I can't lose it or misplace it like I would with my Shubb.
I was wondering what capos would work well on a d28 that could store above the nut. I love my paige, but it won't fit up there on the d28!

I know Mickinny-Elliots would work. Would the Ol Reliable and Dan Crary capos work too?

Thanks for your input!

DJ
I store my Dan Crary capo above the neck on my D-28 with absolutely no issues.

Dan
