Finger style and flat pickin
Hi All,
After I quit playing nothing but classical guitar a few years back because my fingernails started failing me (even tried acrylic nails... PAIN!), I quit playing for awhile, but then last year fell in love with this art form of bluegrass style flatpicking and have never looked back. Well the fingernails still grow out and the other day I was thumbing through a Norman Blake book I have and just for fun, finger picked a tune called "Down at Milo's House". Wow! This is great. No sooner practiced it for a couple days and cut and broke 2 nails. End of that I guess.
So I assume any of you that do some fingerpicking have the toughest nails on earth? And how do steel string guitar finger pickers not tear up their nails?!

Everyone said anything I was going to say - However, I'll add this... Silica supplement. It is a natural supplement that does (I've used it) strengthen nails! and... it will also strengthen your hair (though I'd still use my fingers for pickin').
