I was saddened by the email announcement I received today about the launching of the Flatpicking Guitar Digital Academy.
Don't get me wrong. The basic idea is great, but I won't be subscribing or buying anything there. The reason is that it uses (as does Happy Traum's Homespun Tapes and Stefan Grossman's Guitar Workshop) the services of Leaping Brain, including their proprietary DRM. (I buy a considerable amount from both Homespun and Guitar Workshop, but I won't use their download service.)
This DRM, while (falsely) claiming to protect the rights of content owners, infringes the rights that customers have under copyright law.
