Flatpicking Guitar Network

For Fans of Flatpicking Guitar Magazine

I am not in the market for a new guitar or anything but I was wondering the other day why Guild guitars seems so rare among bluegrass- and flatpickers. I might be wrong but I can´t remember seeing or hearing about someone who uses them in our genre of music.

Your thoughts!

I seem to remember Doc Watson picking a Guild sometime backalong maybe it was a 12 string... I think the older Guilds were a bit 'heavy on the shoulder' for long sessions. However some of the newer models seem to be built a lot lighter in their construction. I bought a cheap 'Chineese Guild' GAD 50 last year and I use it as a 'session' guitar. It's loud/clear and quite nice to play. They are nice guitars. But so to are a lot of the others.

Guild 12 strings were a force to be reckoned with back in the day. They ALL needed neck resets after being strung up for 15 years though. I almost bought a Guild about 15 years ago. I would have used it for Bluegrass, and I am sorry I let it get away...

The old Guilds were great, I'm not sure about the new ones. Though this could apply to a lot of guitars nowadays.

Steve, my office is across the street from Dusty Strings in Seattle and it turns out they have a D18GE in stock. I had not even noticed it but picked it up. The neck takes some getting used to (or probably for me the bigger adjustment is tied to a 1…

I've never had a gauge that I've used for any of my guitars, but what I have done which only costs a few dollars is to get a travel soap box and a sponge to use as a small humidifier that I keep in my case. It's works really well and fits perfectly…
