For Fans of Flatpicking Guitar Magazine

Ive been using ohn Pearse 600l's . Recently tried a set of Adamas phosphor bronze, kind of a darker color than normal, but they sound/and last just as well as th JPs. 12-53 ga btw.

Anyone got a favorite set of uncoateds they'd like to share their feelings on? I just cant get used to the feel of the coated strings.

I've been using the EJ16's forever.. try out the D'Addario coated version of these.. they don't have that slimy property that the Elixers have....
Nothing but D'Addario EJ17 for me. I´ve tried every brand and every gauge available but I always come back to the EJ17´s. It´s like coming home.
I have to admit I do like D'addarios, once I get my callouses back I may move up to ej17's
I tried Martins, Elixer, DR, then I tried RED Brand copper bronze. These strings give it a darker deeper sound than any of the others. I use Medium guage on my Taylor 314CE.
Slightly off topic but I'm wondering if there is going to be any type of setup difference going from light's to mediums on my box... anyone swap between light's and mediums without some type of a setup change.. looking at the spec there is about 3-4 pounds of pull difference between each string from Medium's to lights...

ghs true mediums are balanced tension-wise to exert evenly across the neck. Ever tried them?
Now I find out that the word on the street is that D'addario makes the John Pearse Strings. No wonder I like em.
Well, that might be the word on the street, but John Pearse (the company) claims that they make their own strings and have their own winding machines. I can tell there is a differance between the two. I like John Pearse a lot but they seem to loose their tone faster than D'ads.
10 different sets of strings, 10 different sets of ears means 10 different opinions about the 10 sets of strings. Is anyone confused? Are you going to change strings based on what someone else likes?
I'd be willing to give someone's recommendation a turn in the rotation.
+1

Yesterday I discovered that a store near where I live had Jim Dunlop strings. This is not a musicstore so I was a bit surprised that they had those in stock. I haven´t tried those strings so I bought a few sets. The A and D strings are .046 and .036 in their mediumsets. Slightly thicker than D'Addarios EJ17. Martin have a set they call "Bluegrass gauge" and it has the same gauge as the ordinary Dunlop. 13-17-26-36-45-56. I´ll give these a try next time I change strings. It is always fun to try something new even though I doubt there is a dramatic difference in tone.
Anyone use Black Diamond.......

Might help get rid of those "thin dime hard time hello church street blues"...

sorry .. couldn't resist... :-)

"I recently came across a steel string parlor guitar made by P. Benson, in Minneapolis.  It's really a nice little instrument--well built, comfortable, very much like an old Martin 00-18 (mahogany, slotted headstock, pyramid bridge, ladder…"
