For Fans of Flatpicking Guitar Magazine

I've just started seriously working out of this book and while going through the reduction examples, I found this error. It shows a C7 constructed on the 3rd fret G#,X, F,B. Am I missing something. This is repeated throughout the reduction examples so I feel like I might be misunderstanding something.

Don’t have that material, so I'm not sure what it is referencing. However,I don't understand your chord notation, so I'll just offer this info, if you don't know it.

C7 can be played... 3rd fret with
string 6-5-4-3-2-1
fret. x-3-2-3-1-x
Finger. 3-2-4-1

Best to learn how to construct chords in theory, then you can always work it out, or get a good Chord Dictionary book.

Here's a couple in the key of C Maj

Major 1 3 5
C-E-G

Dominant 7th.

1. 3. 5. b7 (flated7th)
C E G Bb
and so on...

Exactly. I know how to build chords which is why I don't understand the book calling out G#,X, F,B. Am for a c7. I think it's a misprint that happens multiple times.

I would have expected a reply from the author since it's on this web site.

Yeah, you're right, those kind of misprints make learning very difficult for folks. I especially hate it when tab is fouled up with misprints. It's good to get a foundation in a bit of theory to help sort these things out, at least you can spot the errors as you've done. I just joined and saw your post without a response, so wanted to pass on some info, in case you were just starting out, I agree, the author should respond, maybe he's not watching these forums.

Ah, well, how's the rest of that book? I was thinking about getting into that set. I've been playing a long while, but never really seriously studied flatpicking, mostly strum and fingerstyle. I've always enjoyed it though. Doc Watson, Clarence White, Norman Blake, and Kenny Smith are some of my favorites.
I wonder what is the context of that example, though. I've used that shape as a "passing" chord from G7 to Am, so, maybe that is what was meant. Try it, and that does work.

I am in mandolin mode right now because that's what I play in my swing band so the guitar is being ignored. Hopefully I'll come back to this. I learned a lot from this book in a short amount of time though and I've been playing stringed instruments for about 46 years. Master of none.

Doc is my absolute favorite guitarist.

Sorry folks.  The problem is a typo.  The 3rd fret indication should read 2nd fret.  It reads second fret in the first line on page 147, but some how the 3 was entered in the computer and carried over in several of the chord forms.  The C7 chord should be G, X, E, Bb.  Not G#, X, F, B.  We will fix this in the next printing. Sorry for the confusion.  We tried out best to proof read all of this before printing, but in looking at all of those chord diagrams it is hard to catch it all.  Thanks for pointing this out.
