Flatpicking Guitar Network

For Fans of Flatpicking Guitar Magazine

Hey everyone, I would like to perform a simple survey of all that will reply to this. I am very curious what brand and model of guitar is the most popular among the flatpickers here.  There are thousands of members here so it will be great information for someone trying to decide on a "friend". So lets have it flatpickers, what do you play?

I will start;

I play a McPherson MG 4.5 with bearclaw sitka spruce top and indian rosewood b&s

Play a Martin HD-28 & Martin SWDGT (Cherry). The SWDGT has a great sound for flatpicking bluegrass. The mid's,  high's and responce are increadable. Sold a 1968 D-18 for it and it was the best thing I did. The HD-28 is just a great guitar.

I added a new D-18VS , or SV,   custom in late May.

Instead of the slotted head it is solid; instead of sitka, adirondack top.

I play a Lowden S10. Very deep full sound.

I play a Melville OM/000 as my main guitar. Not as loud as a dreadnought, of course, but it's a really really good guitar that is far from a one trick pony. Exepensive but worth every penny.

Check it out! http://www.melvilleguitars.com/ ( He rarely updates his site though)

Sold the Gibson WM-45, Gave the Godin 5th to my grandson,

Bought another Martin,my 4th 12 fret dread... a custom D18-SV (VS)  with adirondack top and solid peghead.

Hi

I play a 2006 Martin D18GE, mohogany back and side , adirondak top, loud, clear, responsive, wonderful presence. I also play a 1994 Martin D41, warm, clear, but not as loud.

Hi all, I am new here and new to flatpicking guitar, I am not a beginner totally as I have played country type songs for years. I have a Eastman E10OM in sunburst, I hope it's not forbidden I know where it's made but for the money I love it. The body is mahogany and the top is Eng srpruce. If I am successful at learning and improve enough I will probably get a dread of some kind but need to save up for another down the road.

Takamine F340S-LH   It's a 1981 model and one of the "law suit"  guitars.  It's a dead ringer for the Martin D-18 and the sound is remarkably close as well.

I play two different guitars.  My primary instrument is a Martin custom HD-28 with an Adirondack Spruce top and scalloped bracing.  I also play a custom made Taylor Model 810 Brazilian.  My Taylor was made in 1995 and my Martin in 2004.

Martin Golden Era 000-18, custom from MFG in FL. Best sounding guitar I've heard. I also have a

HD 28, a Takamini, and my main axe, a Gibson Sam Bush model Mandolin, 2000.

Love those gibson mandolins. I have a gibson f5g.

Has anyone played a Martin D28 Dan Tyminski ? I believe the Martin D18GE and the D28 Tyminski are the best guitars Martin is making. My goal is to make the Dan Tyminski my next purchase.

"I recently came across a steel string parlor guitar made by P. Benson, in Minneapolis.  It's really a nice little instrument--well built, comfortable, very much like an old Martin 00-18 (mahogany, slotted headstock, pyramid bridge, ladder…"

"My gear is much better than my skill - for straight flatpickin', I play a Martin D-18 Authentic 1937. My go-to guitar for just about everything else (and it flatpicks just fine, thank you) is my Huss & Dalton D-RH with a Red Spruce top.…"
