Flatpicking Guitar Network

For Fans of Flatpicking Guitar Magazine

Hey everyone, I would like to perform a simple survey of all that will reply to this. I am very curious what brand and model of guitar is the most popular among the flatpickers here.  There are thousands of members here so it will be great information for someone trying to decide on a "friend". So lets have it flatpickers, what do you play?

I will start;

I play a McPherson MG 4.5 with bearclaw sitka spruce top and indian rosewood b&s

Hd 35s are great guitars!!

YEA, You go D35.........

Hi Josh
The HD-35 is one of the best guitars comming out of Nazareth. A 1994 still has some maturing to do, The tone will settle in with time. The more you play the better.

Hi, I play Takamine guitars.

1977 Takamine F360S (Martin D28 copy)
2006 Takamine TAN16C (all solid spruce and rosewood cutaway with Cool Tube preamp)

The tone on the vintage Takamine is exceptional, and the sound possibilities from the newer one are hard to beat!
Hi Lora, about a year ago we were jamming and a guy came around with one of the new Takamines built for bluegrass and it was so loud that we had to tell him to cut down on his pick attack so the rest of us could hear ourselfs, great instruments!!!!! cheers, Billy
Yeah, those Takamine BG series are pretty darn impressive guitars for flatpicking. They're making some fantastic acoustic guitars, and that's not counting the great pickup/preamp they've got. I still love Martins, etc. but Takamine makes some of the best working guitars around, and my friends and guys at festivals are always shocked at how loud and toneful my Tak is!
Martin 000-18GE but I'm not much of a bluegrasser, more old timey flatpicking (and fingerstyle).

Also have a Gibson J-45 form '04 or '05. I love it, especially the thuddy bass, but am finding D's don't agree with me so well these days. It is actually fairly similar in sound to the 000-18GE so I may sell it.

what about the new gibson deluxe songwriter/artist cutaway, acou-elec.  ill bet the tone is as hot as the abolone soundhole and the mustash bridge......not to mention the many other sexy stuff, did i mention the wood......... m///////.......ebony,,,,,,,

Larrivee OM3R
Hey Yooper,

My mom is from Munising and my grandparents on my Dad's side came to Iron Mountain from Sweden. Spent a lot of time in Munising as a kid. Most x-mases and 4th of Julys +.

Skoal!

Willie
...also, I had a Larry OM09 for several years and it was a great guitar!
Hey I´m from Sweden! Where in Sweden did your ancestors come from?

"My gear is much better than my skill - for straight flatpickin', I play a Martin D-18 Authentic 1937. My go-to guitar for just about everything else (and it flatpicks just fine, thank you) is my Huss & Dalton D-RH with a Red Spruce top.…"
