For Fans of Flatpicking Guitar Magazine
Hey everyone, I would like to perform a simple survey of all that will reply to this. I am very curious what brand and model of guitar is the most popular among the flatpickers here. There are thousands of members here so it will be great information for someone trying to decide on a "friend". So lets have it flatpickers, what do you play?
I will start;

Have severals Guilds ('75 D25M+ '89 D25SB and 2003 JF-30), 2004 Martin 2004 000-16SGT, 98 Taylor 510 and a '98 Stelling RHD-125. Some lower level units too, but the J-45 and HD-35 get the most attention.

Permalink Reply by Steve Blanchard on December 19, 2010 at 10:16pm I currently have a Martin D-18 Authentic that lister William Gray "gave" to me as I pay it off and a D-18GE. I was not looking to replace the GE since it is just a crushing guitar. William brought the Authentic to my teaching studio and I played 3 chords on it and said I want this guitar....that is all it took. I really didn't have to play anything more on the guitar. I am very hard to impress with guitars. I've played somewhere around a thousand or more guitars in my life and I've played about 50 great guitars and a bunch of nice guitars...this Authentic is very special and really needs to mature...probably had under 20 hrs of playing time on it when I got it. That kind of guitar crosses your lap every once in a while. It played favorable to Chuck Egner's '37 D-18 which is a great box. I've been lucky to play several prewars that are just to die for so I knew what this Authentic was saying to me...very articulate. My GE is only a step behind. So I'm totally set. I've played about 8 Authentics and I only like 2 and 2 more were nice and the others...hohum. Just my experience. YMMV...enjoy.
Oh by the way...I have 2 Bourgeois for sale....A great "D" slope and a very nice sounding Ricky Skaggs Signature Model....on of the original prototypes (#2). FYI

Permalink Reply by James Pitts on January 21, 2011 at 12:05pm I play two different guitars depending on the sound I want.
I have a 1997 Gibson Hummingbird that I like for it's rich mellow sound.
I recently bought a Greg Bennett Resonator. It has a bright ringing sound which projects well.
Two entirely different sounds.
