Flatpicking Guitar Network

For Fans of Flatpicking Guitar Magazine

Hey everyone, I would like to perform a simple survey of all that will reply to this. I am very curious what brand and model of guitar is the most popular among the flatpickers here.  There are thousands of members here so it will be great information for someone trying to decide on a "friend". So lets have it flatpickers, what do you play?

I will start;

I play a McPherson MG 4.5 with bearclaw sitka spruce top and indian rosewood b&s

My primary guitar is a 2012 Martin D18.  I also have a Takamine, a Martin DX12 12-string, and a Gold Tone GT-500 6-string banjo.  The others don't get much play since I brought home the new D18 though.

Started off with a Taylor 110, now on a Martin D1E, and waiting on a custom from Randy Wood in Savannah, GA (D-18 copy).  Pretty excited about that one.

Also play my old man's slope body Bourgeois extensively - that's a fine guitar.

Hi Todd.  After 81 different guitars through the last 25 years, I've finally found "the one", a D.L. Wilson dread with mahogany back and sides & red spruce top.  I don't think there's time left to find one with a better sound.  Now, if I could only do it musical justice.  Great survey.  Take care.

I just bought my 2nd Martin, a 2012 D-18.  My first was a Martin HD-28V.  Both are outstanding guitars.  The D-18 is, IMHO, the best guitar for your money.

I just placed an order today with Bob Colosi, for a set of buffalo horn bridge pins to put in my HD-28V.  Can't wait to hear it!  I have a set of bone pins in it now, but they're the wrong kind... slotted when they should be unslotted.  Also have a set of ebony pins on the way to put in the D-18.  Good tones coming my way shortly!

a Composite Acoustics (CA) Legacy AE, Vintage Voicing.

its not mine its my frinds but I like it better than anything I've played I'll take it over the Martins D-28 D-18 Gibson Hummingbird and the many others I've played

I play a Martin D-15 & a D-28 but been making the change over to mandolin

Martin 000-28 retro. Amazing guitar.

I am the proud father of 2 Larrivees. A L-03 and a OM-02. The OM has a K&K and my fav. I also have a Seagull S6 that is beat all to heck but sounds freaking awesome! One day, I'd to add a rosewood axe to the stable, or maybe a vintage archtop. I do love the hunt!

My Guitar is a Martin Year#1973

I play a Gibson Randy Scruggs Advanced Jumbo. A little more bling on it, but it's growing on me. Was looking at a used Standard AJ, but when I played the Scuggs, I knew I had to have it.

I have an Alvarez WY-1 that is more a couch player. But I think my 14 yo son is going to claim squatter's rights.

I's love to try an Eastman, as I've read great things about them. "They" say the fit and finish tops the Blueridge.

Found a Washburn 12 string acoustic/electric cutaway guitar today for $230, that appeared to be solid.  Is this a steal?

I have a Guild Bluegrass D40 made in the original factory at Hoboken that has been with me since 1964

I also have a Martin D18 made sometime around 1994 and a 1977 or earlier Yamaha FG336SB

I play a Silvertone Acoustic from back in the Sixties.

"Thanks Mike. I have to prove to myself that I can play the material as written but once I've done that I start to allow myself some leeway to have fun and drop in my own bits. There's not too much space to do that in SK's version of…"
