For Fans of Flatpicking Guitar Magazine
Metronomes required, brand??
Just wondering if it that crucial/required to start with a metronome right off the bat when starting the "flatpicking essentials" course. Also can anyone recommend a brand or a dollar amount to spend or is there different types? Thanks for any guidance.

Required? No. Crucial? Maybe, depends on you. Helpful? Probably. Recommended? Absolutely.
You can get online metronomes for free. You can get metronome apps for yoursmart phone for free. You can buy metronome devices for cheap. I recommend digital over mechanical.
A feature I like is a visual indicator of the beginning of a measure. For instance, the first beat of a measure flashes red and the other beats flash green.

Thanks for the reply. Like you say it probably won't hurt to get one. Will go for digital or try and get an app for my ipod.
