Hope i meet him one day in person(if i can ever make it to U.S....)!

I had the priviledge of seeing David in a house concert here in Lexington about 3 years ago.. amazing picking and great sense of humor too.

O.k., I'm in.:-) I love David's playing and I'd love to jam with him sometime. Some even say we look a lot alike, but hey, I don't know nothing about that....:-) Thanks Bill for starting this group. See you at Peaceful Bend....

I didnt start this group, all the credit for that goes to Yiannis.
I have been fortunate in this life to have rubbed shoulders with David a few times.. I consider him a friend who happens to play the way I want to.
I first met David a few years ago. We went to Nashville to see our friends Poco play at Third and Linsley, and I drove to the Station Inn to check the place out. It was the Bill Monroe tribute weekend. I am no big fan of bluegrass, but I love acoustic guitars, so I go there. I didnt know what to expect. And its the Monroe Tribute show..and this guy just rips it up.. plays better than I had ever heard .. heck .. better than I could imagine.. It was David. So after the show I wait around , and a long time later, out he comes. I said , hey, just the guy I been waitin for. He say .. uhh ohh.. I says , no, I just want to shake your hand . I never heard playin like that. He smiled and said thanx .
Make a long story short, he is more gracious a man than folks give him credit for. A guitar picker the Lord gave us to show us whats possible.. And a guy with an open invitation to My House.

Ah Yiannis, yes. The guy across the pond who has all those great guitars :-). Btw, is David playing his '46 herringbone mostly, or his old D-18. What year is his D-18?

I have a great little DG story. A few years ago I attended the Roanoke Bluegrass weekend wherein DG was the featured guitar instructor. Lots of folks, including David, arrived late Friday night. I took the opportunity to check out the guitar room and sat down, by myself, with my Santa Cruz guitar and started playing. All alone, David walks in and sits down right next to me and comments about my playing and the sound of my guitar (kudos to SC Guitars). He asks me if he could play my guitar cuz he had left his up in his room. I said sure and handed him my guitar. For the next 20 minutes or so, I sat face to face with him while he jammed on my guitar. Eventually, others realized what was going on and who he was and crashed my private session with David. It was great; an unexpected private lesson!!!

Last year, he stopped by Kaufman Kamp and played a private session at the camp. I have a picture with him on my page messin around with a friend's guitar that he had just signed and then proceeded to play us a tune that he was working on.

Yes, he is a great guy and very friendly to share his blessings.

He played my CW for his show with Wyatt. I know he had an old Martin with him, but he was unhappy with it for some reason.
The year before he had an old Martin, and took my Dove onstage with him and played a few with it. That was special, cuz he played Lil Wing ,, ala Looking Back , with it as an encore . INCREDIBLE !

Bob,regarding his guitars i think that he plays the '46 herringbone mostly(i think also you have a similar guitar).His father's '55 D-18(the one he recorded "Freewheeling" with)stays in the house.He once said that some years ago this particular guitar went for a neck reset,and the guitar doesn't plays so well now,he's no more happy with it.
I believe that he has some '50s D-18s,including a '56 D-18 he used in Bryan Sutton's "Not Too Far Away From The Tree cd".
I *love*those straight braced '50s D-18s and D-28s guitars myself too!
