I teach Guitar in Norfolk Virginia and in the summer for a week in Maryland at Common Ground on the Hill, a music and arts camp for adults.

Over the years I have enjoyed teaching more and more. I find it very rewarding and exciting. Great to be apart of a bunch that loves to have fun!
My schedule being what it is, I will do my best to check back with you guys as often as I can.

I've come to enjoy teaching as much as I do performing.I love getting one on one with somebody or in front of a small group and helping people get better at this.

When I decided to get serious about flatpicking I started out by taking lessons from Chris Walz at the Old Towne School in Chicago. I would recommend Chris to anyone looking for a great teacher.

I teach flatpicking in Forest Grove, OR. and throughout the Pacific Northwest. I teach mechanics and fundementals rather than songs. I can teach songs, but I find most students lack strong fundementals. As a vertern of alot of workshops and music camps, I learned that most great players have good habits, fundementals, and generally a relaxed approach to the instrument. I've been teaching flatpick guitar since 1977. I am back in the Seattle area (Bainbridge Island) and am very thankful to have a fairly full schedule! I have been playing guitar since the late 60s but really got hooked when I heard Norman Blake on the radio in the early 70s. I started teaching guitar in 2004 as a part time activity but soon I had an overflow of students decided to make it my full time work. I find that each student is different and each student has a different set of goals. I design my teaching sessions to fit individual students. Some want to learn note reading, some want to learn tab, and some want to learn completely by ear.. their choice. (Kids dont get a choice, they learn to read notes). I host a slow jam once a month for all of my students and general public to attend. This is designed to teach people how to jam with others and also reinforce what they have been learning. We have had some great musicians join our slow jam, including David Grier. I am available for lessons week days/nights for one hour lessons. Cost is $25 per hour.

I'm available for instruction on guitar and mandolin for the very beginner through advanced intermediate. My main focus is on flatpicking and rhythm for acoustic styles ... bluegrass, traditional, and Americana.

I'm headquartered in Southern NJ near Exit 1 ... which means that I am also very convenient to Delaware.
