we are looking for mic ideas

ok we are looking for a mic that we can use to sit in the middle of banjo guitar and fiddle and harmonica something that would hook up to a small amp or a pa we are looking for that old time tone ,,, i seen the FOGHORN STRING BAND DO THIS AND IT WAS REALLY COOL so any idea would be great..

You may want to try the Audio-Technica 4033. There are quite a few bands using this for a single microphone situation.
The benefit of this microphone is that it actually has a medium size diaphragm. So it behaves a bit better when dealing with low frequencies before feedback. It's pretty rugged. We, John Reischman and the Jaybirds, have been using one for about 4 or five years as our main vocal and sometimes instrument microphone.
A drawback of this microphone is the tone. I am not wild about the overall sound of the mic. It has a bit of an edgy upper midrange. Overall it's a good microphone though.
As I recall, but I am not sure what they are using now, I think Foghorn may have a three microphone setup. I thought they had an upper mic in center, lower mic, and a bass microphone. But like I said, I'm not sure about that. I haven't seen them in a while.
