I was busy busting out orders today and my phone rang. Lo and behold - it was John Reischman! John had been using one of my picks - a heavy style E with a slight left-hand bevel, and was wanting to get some more. How cool is that? He'll be our latest endorsee, using his Red Jasper colored picks. John, Jim Nunally and Nick Hornbuckle all use one of my picks in their group "The Jaybirds". Check them out on the John Reischman and the Jaybirds website. They play all over the country so if they come to a venue near you, go see them. They are fantastic!

Keith Sewell contacted me about making some picks for him. He's going to be doing the summer tour with Lyle Lovett and his Large Band, and naturally, he needs to sound his best. I'm a big fan of Keith's - in fact his CD "Love is a Journey" is one of the cd's I keep on my short-list of favorites. Check out the tune "Duncan Station" on it. Keith is doing some serious flatpicking on it! That's my favorite tune on the cd. I'm jazzed to be working with him! More about Keith . . .

We have a small amount of the coveted "Clown Barf" material in stock. I have some medium and heavy material all processed and ready to go. I also have some raw that I can go to any thickness up to about 3mm and any style. Shown here is a bad scan of a style "C" pick. It's not that great a scan, but you get the idea of the color. I'll get a better scan of one soon.

I came and went here because I clicked some wrong things....anyway. I have a R'Bear pick that I got from BK at kamp last year(C-med) and a real tortise that I bought from that "guy" outside Wilson Chapel 2 years ago... they sound the same and that is a good sound...even for me! I bought the tortise after a conversation with Jim Nunnaly about the pick being like the bow of a violin player.Up to that point I figured as long as you got the strings vibrating it did not much matter what you use...I have even heard of people using their FINGERS,imagine that! Stevie Ray used a quarter(I seen it with me own eyes!...I think..it was the late 80's and ..well never mind...).So any way I am enlightened now,I do not know how it affects the sound/tone,but it does.Anybody actually heard a person play with just FINGERS?....unreal...

I'm hooked on the Coral. Easy to find if dropped in the grass. I flop back and forth between knife edge and speed bevels. Like 'em both. I reckon I have 8 or 10 Large Triange "C" style picks in tortoise, clown barf, and Coral.

I got my first one in 05 at Kamp.. Been a fan ever since.
When I first met Dave ( at Kamp) I asked him what made this pic worth 15 bucks.. He smiled and said they were 20 now..
I was skeptical . No more.. the pics last a long time.. used properly.
I have had 2 broken by friends rite after I told them dont flex them.. darn.
I think a pics qualites can help shape the sound... and I like the sound they help me shape.

I was shopping for a new dreadnought at Gryphon Stringed Instruments about 6 months ago when I stumbled upon the Red Bear pick display box. When I saw the $20.00 price tag my eyes about popped out of my head! 20 bucks for a pick? The extremely helpful guy behind the counter said, "why don't you try one". I chose the Heavy C style and ducked into one of the lesson rooms where I was A/B'ing about 5 high end guitars. About 30 minutes later I came out and slapped the pick on the counter. The guy gave me a look and I said, "I'll take two please".
I've tried other C style picks since then and nothing compares to the speed and pure tone I can get from my Red Bears. When I'm really groovin, I can feel the pick actually melt into my thumb and index finger. The speed that can be attained from just a pick change was the most interesting aspect to me.
Oh, and by the way, I took the Collings D2HA home as well. What a day!

As noted elswhere in the group, when I saw $20 for a pick, I thought "these guys are nuts! When I told my wife about them, she said "are those guys nuts"? So I'm going to assume you all are NOT nuts. Tell me the how this pick makes a difference in the sound and your playing. Get technical... I can take it. :-) Thanks,

OK, I'm being tempted but I am a researcher, (part of the fun). After playing with every pick possible from the local music stores, I must ask you "redbear" experts for some comparison help. Please tell me which of the following picks even sort of act like these Redbears.
