Hello Ray, Thanks for your comments. I am leery of modifying my guitar so I and the rest of the band can hear it but I am also desperate to be able to hear myself better and for the rest of the band to hear me better too. I actually had a very toug…

Hey Mark, thanks for your comments! I can tell I will have to study and research this a fair amount. Having never really considered this seriously until now I just don't know much about these systems. It seems there are pluses and minuses to the dif…

Hey Bill, I posted another comment for you on your original discussion about pickups. I would have replied to you specifically but I thought maybe I could help some other people as well.

Hey Gary, that sounds great, look forward to seeing you up at Grass Valley. My wife Dana and I will be there from Friday afternoon on. I know Bobbie will not be there but the rest of the Band members will. We sure do miss Bobbie, as you know she is just the sweetest person you could ever know. We loved having her play base for us for several years. I just exchanged a couple e-mails with her from her new home in Idaho. Look forward to meeting both you and your wife Gary.

Bill, We'll be sure to hook up at Grass Valley. We're going out Sunday and my wife will be around all week. I'll be out on Wednesday. We usually stay in a tent trailer up on Quaker Hill. Just to the left as you enter the main parking area. Look forward to seeing you.
Also, we know Bobbie, so I'm sure we been in contact.

Bill, Good to see you here. I would venture to guess we've crossed paths somewhere in the northern California bluegrass scene.
Will you be going to Grass Valley?

Tell us more about yourself (place a Bio here if you wish)
Hi Folks,

I am a native of Sacramento and began flat-picking bluegrass music in my early 20’s back in the mid 70’s. From local jam sessions with friends, I ultimately became the guitar player for the Western Lights band some 15 years ago.

The music we all love to play is a great mix of straight ahead; hard driving Bluegrass and classic Western Swing that we feel would make both Bill Monroe and Bob Wills proud! We also love the old classic country songs that legendary artists like Merle Haggard and Hank Williams did. From those fundamental music styles and artists near and dear to our hearts, Western Lights has developed its own unique sound and style while always trying to honor the Masters who brought this wonderful music to all of us.

We have recorded 2 CD’s, "Favorites of Ours" back in 2000 and "Bob Played Here, in 2008. Some songs from both can be heard from the “Music ILike” web site I have shown below. Check out "Bob Played Here!" an original tribute song we wrote for Bob Wills , the lead song on our newest CD.

For band stuff I primarily focus on rhythm guitar with an occasional lead break. I love Western Swing Rhythm playing. I also love singing both lead and harmony vocals for the band. I am the leader and spokesmen for the band.

I have been enjoying the flatpick guitar magazine and CD from way back near when it first started. I look forward to participating and sharing on this flatpicking forum.

Best Wishes,

Bill Ward,
