This is a very interesting discussion and figuring out the best way probably lies at the heart of whether I will get to the "next level". I've been holding the pick much the way Stephan's first 2 pictures showed, except, like Roger says makes a big…

Classical guitarist turned flatpicker, I still play a lot of fingerstyle as well, having transferred my technique over to Americana styles. Doc is definately my main influence and inspiration for the switch.

Technically, I am following the principles Steve Kaufman lays out in his many instructional materials. His ideas on how to approach picking work for me.

I have a Doc Watson Gallagher and a 71 Special Gallagher as well.

An exciting moment for me at Steve Kaufman's Kamp 08

Kaufman Kamp sounds like fun. I wish I could be there. Instead, I'll be on a mower seat most of the week. Every year I eoy with driving over one day to sort of meet and greet, and pick a little. Sanity and time constraints have won so far! It's about 4 hours one way for me from mid NC. Have twice as much fun for me!

Hey Dale!

Nice Music! The Vision reminds me a lot of old Simon & Garfunkel, good stuff. I remember you from over on AF.

Nice - looking forward to it. I'll be driving up with my sister Cath, a fiddle player, and rooming with my buddy Mark Ulrich. Safe travels!

Hey Dale - Guess I'm a little slow, but I just got around to listening to the tunes on your profile. Really nicely done!

Are you going to be at Kamp this year? I'll be at Week 1. Hope to see you there.

Best,
Joe

Hi Dale,

Just got home today. My mother was in the hospital. Now that she is home, she can't live alone any more. I'm heading back next week until the 14th when Paul will be there. I will bring my guitar down so he can use it while he is up from Florida. My mother lives about 100 miles from my house.

Thanks for the music. You have a super voice and I enjoyed listening to it. Hope you don't mind if I send them to Paul, he will also love them.

Where can I get a CD?

Thanks Again
Rich

I am a classical player, too! I also play rock though. I try to combine techniques as best I can.

Hey Dale - sadly, I've had to pass on Kamp this time because of a work deadline that shifted, though. Keep an eye out for my buddy Mark Ulrich from Houston, however. He's attending both weeks-and I mentioned your finger picking on Deep River Blues and Southbound. I hope he'll say hello at some point.

Best,
Joe

Dan, Going through in detail now, and came to this point again. You diagram on p.67 makes the similarity of the C and D forms clear. Another way I have seen these box patterns named that I also find useful is name them 'string-finger' according to…

been awhile since Jed asked the pick question, so probably doesn't care by now, but when i went to a Beppe workshop some years ago, he was using the Dunlop 500 (not the tortex, but the glossy model), pink one... .98 thickness.
