A Different Tuner/Nut Question

This could've been posted with the other nut/tuner topic, but it is slightly different. I have a 1994 Martin HD-35. It's got those locking tuners that Martin was using about that time, and I'm pretty sure micarta nut and saddle. The strings have been pinging when tuning, and I want to get rid of the micarta.
