Vera enjoyable people! Great singing and guitar playing too!

There are a few problems that happen with expensive axes like ours. Up here in Northern Canada, it's forced air furnaces in the winter that dehydrate our axes. With no humidifier going, the humidity can easily go down to 20 or 24%! Most acoustic ins…

This'll tell you if you are drying out your guitar(s) - Any recommendations on the best way to keep them 'wet'. Is a climate controlled cabinet at 50% RH and stable temperature worth the trouble? Probably - how much value does a 4K guitar loose with…

(I posted over on the Collings Forum today) So folks, do you wonder whether you should have a Hygrometer to read YOUR humidity? Maybe you have never thought about it, or put it off every year in hopes that you won't get any cracks this year in one o…

Very nicely done! I loved it...

Kerry, I continued to wonder about this. Particularly the 'deep scientific study' that lead ToneRite to conclude that 60 HZ was just the right frequency to maximize aging or loosening. Some coincidence that this just happens to be line frequency and…

My favorite is ~4 years old and played 1-2 hrs a day, but has and Adi top - notoriously slow to open - so might still make an improvement. I'll give it a try. Thanks!

I'm pretty sure, Bruce that it WILL do something good to the tone, as opposed to nothing at all. Just kind of a pale imitation of what a Tonerite will do is all. There have now been 60 high end Collings done . The worst was no change at all, but tha…

I'll just open this thread back up after a whole year's dormancy.... Faris's axe sound terrific, BUT I am of the opinion that any guitar that guy chose to play would sound amazing too! What a monster player,m I have been to his YOUTUBE page and hear…

I've been flatpicking guitar since '84. I've had a ton of guitars (it seens to me) and played mandolin in a national touring band for 5 years at the start of the '90s. My main axe there was a Monteleone Grand Artist. My main guitar now is a Collings D2H. I've had string instrument repair shops in the last three cities I've lived in (Winnipeg, Montreal and Prince George) the current shop being by far the biggest at over 1000 sq feet. I have been spending a pretty big chunk of my cash these last 4 years on tooling up to start building Electricmandolins (emandos) I teach Bluegrass guitar and mandolin up here. I am the only mandolin teacher I know of in this city on 80k, and also have the only Collings that I know of here.I have my Residential Home Care ticket and work full time graveyard at a full care grouphome and I love my work. This years obsession is blueprinting the various parts ( 4/8 string bridge and pickup and 5 string bridge and pickup) and the bodies for the emandos I will be building soon.

Kerry, that is a gorgeous shop you have there. Did you build that flamed dread? Is it maple or a flamed mahogany?

I've been learning for about a year and a half. I don't have a lot of musical ability but I do try. I've been interested in bluegrass for some 35 years and play mostly bluegrass harmonica and just recently picked up the guitar. Mostly because of the new electronic tuners made it possible for me to keep the guitar in tune. My ear has been getting better though. I play a Martin HD28 and a Talor D-3. I like both as the Martin has a great sound, the Tayor has a brighter sound. I'm trying to work through the Essential series, but with my ability it will take me quite awhile.

Hi Kerry,
I don't play a lot today. Too much work, not enough guitar, I'm sad, but I've been playing with my duet Grasstics Sunday.

Hi Kerry,
My JP Aleman is an hand made guitar by french luthier. This guitar was made for me because I'm a great fan of the Clarence White D28 now owned by Tony Rice. This guitar has a great woody sound, his look like the original, I play sometimes on stage with this one and also with my great 1954 Martin D18. If you want more information from JP Aleman i can talk about him more and more...

Dan, Going through in detail now, and came to this point again. You diagram on p.67 makes the similarity of the C and D forms clear. Another way I have seen these box patterns named that I also find useful is name them 'string-finger' according to…
