Marcy, I think in many ways it is a tough call between the (full) PT HD (not the LE version) and Logic. They are very close in many ways and you can do pretty much anything on either of them. Both incredibly powerful tools. Both with quite a learni…

Andy, I know several people who are switching to Logic. What do you like about it? Thanks

While I have used PT, I changed over to Logic Studio around the same time I added the Apogee Ensemble... I have to say, I much prefer it. The latest version of Studio is superb and very well integrated to the Apogee hardware. Andy

Great FGM DVD-Kilby, Davis and May

Hi Flatpickers,
I recently bought a DVD produced by Flatpicking Guitar Magazine called "Live In Kansas City-Cody Kilby, Brad Davis and Tim May. I rarely say anything like this but this DVD is a must have for every flatpicker. It's just fantastic! I watched it on an airplane with headphones and this DVD was so good I forgot where I was. I actually started clapping after one of the songs! Luckily the people sitting nearby chuckled.
I'm not kidding, it's that good! Everybody needs to buy this DVD o… Continue

Old Time Tunes

Hi Pickers,
I've added a couple of videos of Old Time Tunes that work beautifully on guitar. I'm playing a 1918 Gibson 4 string Cello Banjo here and Cathy Fink is playing a Tubaphone 5 string. The Cello Banjo is experiencing a well deserved come back in the last year. When I put this clip up on youtube I was the only person playing it as a melody instrument. The only other player I could find was a guy in France who plays his as a bass. I had approached several companies to see if they would be… Continue

Hi, Marcy,

I noticed that you and Cathy performed at the Utah Phillips Tribute on Oct. 30. I sure wish I could have been there. Bruce was always one of my favorites. How was the show and the tribute?

By the way, I'm really enjoying your swing guitar course. I'm also working through Mickey Baker, Doug Green, Charlton Johnson and a few others but yours is a wonderful intro to a style I've been meaning to pick up for a long time. Thanks.

Hi Marcy, I am long overdue on this Hello and thank you to you. Way back shortly after you put together that Swing Guitar instructional material back in the late 90’s I purchased the package and had a ball learning that style of swing rhythm playing with your instructional package. Shortly after that, our band (Western Lights) decided we were going to put together our first attempt at a professional recording and we did a CD we entitled “Favorites of Ours” which turned out to be a nice mix of Bluegrass and Western Swing type songs. Our lead song for this CD was Hey Good Lookin’ in the Western Swing style which I learned from your instructional package!

To make a long story short, we have been having a lot of fun as a band every since then and finished our 2nd CD, entitled “Bob Played Here!’ in 2008 with the lead song being “Bob Played Here!” a tribute song we wrote to honor to Bob Wills. We have been mixing in a lot of Western Swing with our Bluegrass music ever since I got interested in it and learned so much from your instructional swing material.

You can listen to both of our bands versions of these songs, “Hey Good Lookin’” as well as “Bob Played Here!” by going to the ILike music web site from my profile page on this Flatpicking Guitar Network site which I just recently discovered and joined.

If you ever get out to California for any kind of performing thing I would love to come see you and say hello and thank you in person. Let me know. Again, an overdue but earnest Hello and Thank You!

Thanks so much. Found The Guitar Pickin' Gals. What a relief! I love men, but I get tired of being the only female in most of the guitar situations I wind up in. Chick Pickers Unite!

Thank you Marcy. I have been using materials from homespuntapes for the last 25 years, and have never conpleted any of them. When I had the first child I purchased an LP " Jump Children", the LP has worn out and gone, but I still remember Marcy Marxer.

Hi Marcy
Found this place while wandering around in myspace.
Been working on Chinese Breakdown for over a year now.
It's finally coming into focus at a reasonable tempo.
Thanks for the instruction.
