Great FGM DVD-Kilby, Davis and May

Hi Flatpickers,

I recently bought a DVD produced by Flatpicking Guitar Magazine called "Live In Kansas City-Cody Kilby, Brad Davis and Tim May. I rarely say anything like this but this DVD is a must have for every flatpicker. It's just fantastic! I watched it on an airplane with headphones and this DVD was so good I forgot where I was. I actually started clapping after one of the songs! Luckily the people sitting nearby chuckled.

I'm not kidding, it's that good! Everybody needs to buy… Continue

Old Time Tunes

Hi Pickers,

I've added a couple of videos of Old Time Tunes that work beautifully on guitar. I'm playing a 1918 Gibson 4 string Cello Banjo here and Cathy Fink is playing a Tubaphone 5 string. The Cello Banjo is experiencing a well deserved come back in the last year. When I put this clip up on youtube I was the only person playing it as a melody instrument. The only other player I could find was a guy in France who plays his as a bass. I had approached several companies to see if they… Continue

Yep, Jay and Molly are great!
Jay's music and DVD has really helped my fiddling.

Glad you are enjoying your new Park guitar.

Hey Marcy, thanks so much for the friend request - what an honour, I read your feature in the 'women's' edition of FGM, it made me laugh - my favourite comment from an audience member so far has been: "Was that really you playing the guitar?..... you don't look capable of it" Ha ha - I like the idea that i might get on stage and just mime!! Anyways, I hope that I get to pick with you some day, warmest wishes from the UK, from Sophia xx

Hey Marcy!

How have you been?

Glad to see you on the network!

Do you think that you're going to make it out to IBMA this year? If so, I would love to pick a few tunes with you!

Hope all is well.

Hi Paige,
I hope all is well with you and your family!
I wish we were going to IBMA this year! It's great that you'll be going. What are you playing these days? Any favorite tunes?
It would be great to see your family doing some gigs in the Washington DC area. You could do some great sight seeing, too. Have your parents email me off list if that's ever something they would like to pursue.
Things have been very good here. Have you heard about the cello banjo? There are some videos on youtube if you're interested. There is an amazing movement happening out there in traditional music land. To make a long story short, I got a Gibson cello banjo from 1915 (and it's wonderful). I put some cuts up on the internet and the thing really took off. There's a company making them now, I'm doing lots of interviews all over the world and people are starting to play them. It's really fun and the best part is that these instruments were almost lost. They're out in the world being played for the first time in almost 100 years!

Hope to See You Soon!

Marcy
