There should be 0v on the output of the 8801 and your AEA does have a pair of diodes fitted in any event to block accidental application of phantom power to the input stage, so you should be fine safety-wise. As Bryan say, what exactly is the object…

I've never had a gauge that I've used for any of my guitars, but what I have done which only costs a few dollars is to get a travel soap box and a sponge to use as a small humidifier that I keep in my case.
It's works really well and fits perfectly…
