I love to write poetry. Lately I've been writing a craft column and an arts column for the local newspaper. Was editor of local arts alliance newsletter for 2 years. Now I'm crazy about learning to flatpick. I first heard it when Steve Kaufman came to a local music festival. For a few years I was content to listen to it, but now I gotta play!

Ask Me

Do you still believe in love?

Do you want to feel again?

Have you sealed the open door or

Does your heart still beg for more?

When you ask me why I stay

I hold on another day

Hoping you will realize

My reflection in your eyes

Is saying Ask Me...

I know your heart can't be waiting for her

Cause she made it all so clear she never cared

Has she rummaged through your life and left you nothing

Nothing for another… Continue

South Heart (Poem by Nanessence)

Who picks and strums my old guitar

picking out the fiddle tunes I

half remember from some ancient time?

Who's twisting in the writhing wind

swaying with the blowing trees

shaping shifts and shimmers in that

eastern mountain sound?

Oh, the sound, south hearted sound

a ringing tang and metal twang

a thumping bass beast rising

like a pulsing heart beneath its wooden skin!

Who knows this gives to quiet truth

the ringing… Continue

Nanessence,
Thanks for accepting. I just thought since we are both members of the Beginner Flatpicker and Kaufman Kamp groups we might as well be friends too. I live about 25 minutes from Maryville College so I'll be at Steve's Kamp at least a couple of nights for the concerts and the late night, under the oak tree's, jam sessions.
Save your money and get your fingers in shape for the all night pickin sessions....hope to see you here next year!
Make today a special day!!

Nanessence,
I think your friends grandson will really enjoy the video. You know you could post it.
Your right I am lucky to be in and area where there are so many really good flatpickers but not many of them are into the teaching side. If I can get some lessons and improve enough to make the Kamp worthwhile I may see you there. Until then keep making new strings old.

Responding to Beginning Flatpick comment.
Nan, 240 bpm is dance tempo, 300 bpm is contest tempo. At 120 bpm or anything above that, you can stick with most jams. Art

Thanks for joining the Flatpicking Essentials Group! And I'm happy to hear that you are getting out and picking with some old-time fiddlers! That is great!
