Ray Fairbanks might attend Dan Miller's event
November 8, 2009 from 2pm to 4pm
Flatpickers Brad Davis, Tim May and Dan Miller will conduct a hands-on, all-level flatpicking guitar workshop focused on improving right hand technique. Without good right hand technique a flatpicker's timing, tone, note clarity, and speed will su...

Peter - I generally play it in C. For the part that I believe you are referring to, try the following (1 beat per chord): C / E7 / Am / C7 / F / Fm / C (or in G, G / B7 / Am / G7 / C / Cm / G) Adds some nice emphasis on that portion of the song....

I've been playing guitar for years.. MANY years... as a hobby / creative outlet. I've enjoyed Bluegrass music for years as well, even though I played more folk, rock, blues, and country music. I got into flatpicking in 2006, and have really learned to appreciate the amount of talent and creativity it takes to play some of this stuff. I'm just a hack, still learning, but having a great time! Keep on pickin'!

The New Red Bear Pick is here!

Just received the new Red Bear pick that I won for participating in the "name that new pick" contest in the Red Bear group. Many thanks to Dave and Red Bear for participating on this network and for getting it out to me so darn quick!

The new pick is a style "F", heavy, with grips and speed bevel. I already have 2 other Red Bear picks, and they truly are my favorites. Great feel, nice control, great tone. If you haven't tried one, you should!

I'll be playing with it this weekend, and will repo… Continue

Hi Ray. Last few jams at Round Hill I mentioned a bluegrass/Irish fusion band who's name I couldn't recall. They are Sligo Rags . Their guitarist is a member here at Flatpicking Guitar Network, David Burns . They also have a few videos here. In addition, they were featured in Flatpicking Guitar Magazine - September/October 2008 (one of my favorite issues of the magazine).

See you next month,
Curtis Olson

Hi Ray,
Nice music you recorded. Excellent. Missed at String Break this year. Had a great time. Chris only made the last night, but he got his Thompson. Hope we all can make it next year.

I know this is hard to believe but I believe it even sounds better than it looks, and I agree it looks pretty darn beautiful. Bob is an excellent craftsman and I am glad I got this when I did. I don't think he is going to go down in price, if you catch my drift.

Hiya Ray! Got your comments on the Twin Falls workshop - I don't remember your name specifically (there were lots of folks there in 2007, and hard to remember names after just 2 days!), but yes, I was there. There weren't many there last year (only about 6 or 8 total I think) -- but I just saw Robin Kessinger today and he said there are 25 or so signed up for it this year, so it ought to be fun. (They are currently expanding the lodge at Twin Falls and putting in an indoor pool, so next year's workshop will be really cool!) Seeya around...

Ray,

Thank you for the kind words. Sometimes something just comes out good. The mando on Sally Anne was one such. I'm still plugging away at Shady Grove!

I like'em all Ray, especially BBB in "D"????? Being originally from Arkansas, I am not allow to multi-task like that!!
It sounds to me like we both love flatpickin', but the blues are somewhere deep down in our souls! My favorite is "How Long Blues." Great chops, Ray. Soulful voice too.
