"Howdy! Proud owner of a 1996 Taylor 810.  Great sounding guitar - well balanced, and records real nice.  Can't cut through the noise in an open jam against all the Martin's, but on tape or mic'd right, it does a fine…"

Tell us more about yourself (place a Bio here if you wish)
I've been playing guitar for years.. MANY years... as a hobby / creative outlet. I've enjoyed Bluegrass music for years as well, even though I played more folk, rock, blues, and country music. I got into flatpicking in 2006, and have really learned to appreciate the amount of talent and creativity it takes to play some of this stuff. I'm just a hack, still learning, but having a great time! Keep on pickin'!

The New Red Bear Pick is here!

Just received the new Red Bear pick that I won for participating in the "name that new pick" contest in the Red Bear group. Many thanks to Dave and Red Bear for participating on this network and for getting it out to me so darn quick!

The new pick is a style "F", heavy, with grips and speed bevel. I already have 2 other Red Bear picks, and they truly are my favorites. Great feel, nice control, great tone. If you haven't tried one, you should!

I'll be playing with it this… Continue

Hi Ray,

I have not made it over to Round Hill. I get to Boe's strings in Frederick periodically and up to Waynesboro, PA on Fridays sometimes. I go to a local jam near Sugarloaf on Fridays sometimes with some local folks. Danny is my teacher on guitar and mandolin, although I'm a slow learner. ;-)

I'll have to try and make Round Hill sometime.

Ray, if I correctly recognize you from your photo, I played with you last Friday night at Round Hill. I was the bearded guy with the cheap Takamine. I was trying to tune it and you took pity on me and loaned me your electronic tuner. Are there any other Round Hill regulars here on Flatpicking Guitar Network? Here's an idea: use this network to come up with a song list to practice for next month's jam, say, some of the tune from Flatpicking Guitar Magazine. Waddaya think?

That would suck if Round Hill were closed until spring, but I guess it give me time to practice. I've been playing for only three years. My goal is to be "adequate" by the end of the fourth year, still got some woodshedding to do.

Love that photo of you guys and Wayne Henderson. I went to his festival this year. Those Grayson County roads are scary!

Why sure, I'll try to come Sunday if I can get permission from The Boss. Please shoot the details to me.

Hi Ray. I missed Dirk's jam as well. I'll try to get on his mailing list.

Been practicing Devil's Dream and Make Me A Pallet On Your Floor from the last issue. Gotta pick up St. Anne's Reel from this issue.
