"I agree. I have been using Flat tops for about a year now and really like them.  EFT17's. They were designed for slide use, and are not very bright sounding. But I like them like that for flat picking and backing rhythms."

"I really like D'Addario Flat Tops (EFT17 for medium/EFT16 for light). They're not flatwound, but regular PB strings that have been ground slightly on the surface. You get a fast, smooth feel and no finger squeak. Can't say whether…"

"Try Newtone double wound! They are really flexible. But they are hard to find, sometimes, they seem to sell out pretty quick whenever a store gets a batch of em."

"Pyramids either the 328 (hex core) or the Western Folk (round core) will have a softer feel than the Martins....really nice lush tone as well. "
