Favorite Flatpickers
While I love all of the guitar heros that grace us with their wonderful music, my favorite pickers are the guys I get to jam with all too seldom! Bryan, Keith, David, Andy, Keith, Mario, Tommy, Dan, John, Mike and all the rest that I haven't played with yet. I learn stuff everytime I sit down with another flatpicker. Thanks to all of them!

Pickin' Shack Lefors, Texas

Over the years many bluegrassers from the Panhandle of Texas have sharpened their licks and honed their skills in a little town just south of Pampa called Lefors. Eudell Gifford, one time front man for a band called Tri Stat

Taking Jamming Opportunities

In the May 2007 Issue of Flatpick gutar Magazine I was surprised to find that Edd Mayfield (brother to one of my schoolmates' father) had played with Bill Monore. I tracked down an album of their material and was pleased that my tiny hometown of Dimmit, Texas had ties to the Father of Bluegrass.

Chris Newman and Máire Ní Chathasaigh

I had the distinct pleasure of getting to know Chris a couple of years ago at Kaufman Kamp and recently picked up his latest effort "Heartstring Sessions" with Máire, legendary guitarist Arty McGlynn and virtuoso fiddler Nollaig Casey (who is Maire's sister). Highly recommended.

Below is a video of Máire and Chris playing his Davy Stuart custom guitar with 24 frets. I got a chan… Continue

Tim: Cool page. Love your photo of Steve, and the jamming photos. Reminds me of the Everett Barn in Georgia, where I try to pick on my way to Kamp. My FGN picture in on the porch there.

Yes , Coy and I were using Audacity a while ago. It's a great app. Your recording levels came out realy nice. The picking was right in there too.

Glad to hear the workshop went well...too bad you couldn't participate more...oh well.

I've been doing the National Guitar Workshop for the past three summers. It's a really fun gig. It's a blast hanging out with all the cool faculty and I have been blessed to have really cool students in my classes. This year I was in Nashville and Chicago, each for a week. So, it's also nice to get out of the Twin Cities and change it up for a bit.

Sounds like your numbers are up for students, that's great. I wish you continued success with the teaching!

Take care,
Mike

Steve, my office is across the street from Dusty Strings in Seattle and it turns out they have a D18GE in stock. I had not even noticed it but picked it up. The neck takes some getting used to (or probably for me the bigger adjustment is tied to a 1…

So what you are talking about here Jon, is not what I started the thread for( but it IS a nice aside!) You NEED to know what your humidity is at in your house were your axe lives. That is what the Hygrometer is for. There are all kinds of threads ev…

I've never had a gauge that I've used for any of my guitars, but what I have done which only costs a few dollars is to get a travel soap box and a sponge to use as a small humidifier that I keep in my case. It's works really well and fits perfectly…
