Profile Information

Favorite Flatpickers
For "all things flat picking" I have to go back to the originals: Maybelle Carter (sure, she "flatpicked" with her thumb, but...); Jimmie Rodgers; Django Reinhardt; Charlie Christian; Leadbelly; Woody Guthrie; Hank Snow; Lester Flatt; and the man who taught an entire generation to flat pick, Ramblin' Jack Elliott; Then, the modern, lead pickers: Joe Maphis, Doc Watson, Clarence White, Roy Clark, Norman Blake, David Bromberg, Tony Rice, Mark O'Connor, Albert "Extra Fingers" Lee, Dan Crary, Russ Barenberg, Vince Gill, Brad Davis, and all the new kids.
Favorite Flatpicking Tunes
Black Mountain Rag, Twelfth Street Rag, Arkansas Traveler, Nashville Pickin', Under the Double Eagle, a million others, and hey, I like that new Brad Davis piece, California.
Favorite Guitars
I play a Martin D-28 and a Guild F-312; I bought the Martin in 1966 and the Guild in '69, and I've never shopped for anything else. I've played a friend's Lowden, and it had a very good feel.

In my humble abilities I have been fortunate enough to use some great picks on guitars that I do not deserve. I have several tortoise shells that dear friends gave me long ago. They are like playing with a fingernail and even shape to your fingers...
