The photos show me on guitar with fellow picker Martin on banjo...on the old Swing chair

The Bourgeois Country Boy is definitely a fantastic guitar. If you're ever stateside, in the NE, check out Acoustic Music. Their website, http://www.acousticmusic.org/, only lists a few guitars, but it's one of the best acoustic guitar shops for higher end instruments I've ever seen. They have a TON of Bourgeois guitars. In fact, I got to play a beautiful D-28 style that was owned by Ricky Skaggs! And another D-18 style that was owned by Bryan Sutton. Bourgeois makes fantastic instruments and their prices are very reasonable compared to similar competition. I'd also suggest checking out Gallagher Guitars, for the same reason: http://www.gallagherguitar.com/ . They make one of the best dreadnoughts money can buy, but their prices are more like Martin's regular line than other very small shops. Doc Watson plays one. Funny story is apparently Rory Gallagher bought a Martin D-35 because that's what he thought Doc played, only to find out his true guitar was his own namesake! Like Bourgeois, their guitars are loud and powerful, but very crisp and clear with a lot of character. They're more balanced than a traditional dread but still have plenty of thunk for rhythm. Best of luck, and if you're ever stateside, we'll have to jam!

P.S. As far as those Irish roots, my ma's family left in Depression to come to the states, but only after my great-grandfather was Eamon de Valera's driver for some of his countryside tours! We have some funny pictures of them having a grand old time!

Norman's Preferences

I saw a video in which Norman discussed why he preferred a certain fret when refretting one of his Martin's. I am about to refret my D-35 Martin, and I would like to know if anyone remembers a video in which Norman discusses his choice over the Frets Martin uses. Thank You.7See More
