My first instrument was the fiddle when I was about 8 yrs old. Got pretty good at it too until I hit my teenage years and became interested in other things. I picked up the guitar at the age of 12 and I took all of the theory and training I learned from fiddle playing, and applied that to the guitar. I am mostly self taught and just recently I started flatpicking, concentrating on fiddle tunes and Bluegrass standards. I am also a new subscriber to FGM online and I find it to be an amazing resource.

AND I'M GONNA MISS IT!!! I can't believe this. For a few years now, my folks have been asking me to come to the River Valley Jamboree, which is just north of North Bay, Ontario. (Yes it's WAY out in the middle of nowhere) I was gonna go this year bu…

I just got a set of 1.4mm the other day. I like them alot. This is the first time I've changed my pick in 10 years. I always just used 1mm Dunlops. So, needless to say, I'm hearing a BIG change in tone and clarity. I'm glad I made the switch.

I just got my Wegen picks today. 1.4mm bluegrass. I can't believe how great they feel and sound. The holes that are cut out in them are great for grip. I've never played a pick this thick before, and I can't get over how easy they play. Plus I find…

Hey, Warren. I haven't been reading FGM much at all lately, as the last two years have been devoted to a major project: we sold everything and have moved permanently to Europe, and it's been almost exactly to years from making the decision to reaching where we are now. Tons of paperwork, bureaucracy...arranging a huge international move...getting residency established...getting our place here...etc... Gathered a few grey hairs along the way, but I don't regret it for a moment. So, maybe I now I'll have a chance to pick some more and get my nose back in FGM...(

Hey, Warren -- I'm another Canuck, but living in Italy now. Haven't been doing as much pickin' as I'd like the past few months, but that should change soon. Going to send you an invite...)

AND I'M GONNA MISS IT!!! I can't believe this. For a few years now, my folks have been asking me to come to the River Valley Jamboree, which is just north of North Bay, Ontario. (Yes it's WAY out in the middle of nowhere) I was gonna go this year but I ended up getting invited to a wedding of a good friend of mine.

Then just today I go on the jamboree website and what do I see? JOSH WILLIAMS BAND! I hope they play there again next year cause I'll be going, hell or high water. Josh Williams is m… Continue

Dan, Going through in detail now, and came to this point again. You diagram on p.67 makes the similarity of the C and D forms clear. Another way I have seen these box patterns named that I also find useful is name them 'string-finger' according to…
