Hi Jim. This article may be of interest. http://www.articlesbase.com/music-articles/musical-scales-why-we-have-scales-and-how-they-were-made-385814.html My approach is to listen to the melody of a tune, decide which position on the neck to play it…

Hi Jim, Re: scales; You know, I am reading a theory book right now by Jim D'Ville and Bill Keith called "The Natural Way". I think it is really terrific and I would recommend it to you as a great place to start. Best Wishes, John C

I need to start doing a better job of learning scales. Can anyone recommend a good reference. Thanks.

I have found that setting up a metranome and practicing helps greatly. I like to warm up slow and build speed on scales. Then I move to rhythm. Then I focus on new licks and breaks that I have issues with. I spend a great deal of time tryin to perfe…

I think one of the things that is really holding me back is that I have a very undisciplined practice routine. In fact, undisciplined is too kind....haphazard would be a better word. So, I think I need to develop a routine. What should be included…

Hey Jim,

I saw your post on wanting to learn scales. I have some info up on the Theory Group : http://flatpick.ning.com/group/theorybeyondthesound/forum/topic/show?id=2091238%3ATopic%3A41877

In additional there are lots of books and Internet references for scales. Take a look at my link and if you want, send me a line. In the meantime, I see if I can find a good reference for you when I get home.

Jim, I think I remember chatting with you on the Larrivee(?) board a few years back. I hope it's not too cold in PA, my wife has relatives up there. Marty

Just take a look at my photos. Will try to update them.
I've just received a Blazer&Henkes 000-42.It's a guitar from another planet;no bluegrass guitar of course, but a very sweet and resonant guitar, crystal clear sounding one.

Complete FGM On DVD - On The Way

I've been bothering Dan periodically for a few months now asking when the DVD with every issue of FGM would be ready. I already had them all in print form but they were taking up so much space that I was really looking forward to having everything on a single DVD.

When I got the email yesterday that it was finally ready, I ordered immediately. I now have my print collection up on ebay, in groups of two volumes. I've been watching prior sales and if all works out, it should be about a break even… Continue
