Donating to Young Musicians in Nashville

I am in the process of finding a needy young person(s) in the nashville area that may have lost his or her guitar in the flooding. I am already in contact with a local music store in the bellevue (a hard hit area) part of Nashville. I'd love it if I could take a UHAUL full of music supplies to the needy young musicians but as for now, I'll be taking my pawn shop guitar and a couple sets of strings. The music store I spoke with said they know of at least three students they that have lost their…See More

Donating a guitar to a needy young, beginning bluegrasser in Nashville.

I am deeply saddened to see the loss that Nashville is seeing in the flood. I feel that music wipes the dirt from the soul in times of need. While I don’t have a very expensive guitar ($180 cort, Dreadnought styleguitar),I keep this as an extra guitar that I keep at work. I’d like to donateit to a young beginner bluegrasser that may have a guitar too far gone for repair. It’s not muchof a guitar (better than nothing) but I’d love to help someone out in the bluegrass community inneed! My Brother…See More

"Here's a tip. Sit in front of a mirror and observe your posture, hand positions etc. Practise your smiling too. This is very handy - people won't know what you play, but they'll remember you were happy doing it!"

Anybody want to do 15 minutes a day with me?

John,Since finishing up the album, I've resumed at least 15minutes a day on the guitar! Last night, I first practiced the arpeggio from your video. Then I practiced playing Gmajor, A Major, B major scales. I played them straight, then alternating positions 1,3,2,4,3,5, etc., then triplets. I have a hard time knowing how best to spend 15-20minutes a lot of times. How would you recommend breaking up your 15 minutes of practice? I remember you saying in the video to start with the Db scale???…See More

"I have a left handed Blue Chip TAD 3R 40 pick and I find it a great pick to use, no scraping and quick on the strings. The only problem is that the tone is quite bass-y which is great for lead picking or Mandolin but not so good for rhythm…"
