Bluegrass Week

I had a great time at Mars Hill Bluegrass Week last week. Had great students, heard great music, played some great guitars, got to hang out and jam with Roland White. The week was almost perfect for me. Back home now and back to my usual boring routine life.

Wayne Henderson Festival

Looking forward to the Wayne Henderson festival this weekend at Grayson Highlands State Park here in Mouth of Wilson VA. Gonna hear the hot new bluegrass group The Boxcar's, and of course I'll be in the guitar contest once again .... just to make the odds better for the winner ... :)

Best beginner flatpicking guitar

I've been asked often what might be the best beginner guitar as far as flatpicking is concerned. It has been my experience of playing several of the newer chinese made guitars that either a Silver Creek D size or a Blue Ridge D-size would make a good dependable beginner flatpicking guitar. It would aslo depend on your budget as too which one you should buy, a mahogany or rosewood model. Blue Ridge makes a BR-160A which features an Adirondack top that sounds great and will cost around $750 to… Continue
