thanks guys! (blush). I had a FB request to play the tune "off the cuff" so I've done one... I'll post it here too.

Hey Kathy.  Nicely played version  in D and G and certainly your own.

thanks Joe! You know, you get so used to your own playing, it's always nice to hear that you have a "style"....

Nice job, Kathy! I need to get some of my students to check out your left hand, not to mention your playing:)

thanks Joe! That's funny you should say that.... one of the reasons I crosspick so much is 'cause my left hand sucks so much! Maybe I should rethink that...

Well, I was originally going to add the comment that I'd love to see what you're doing with your right hand. But as far as your left, your fingers are nice and curved so you get good leverage on the strings, and you keep your little finger closer to the fretboard when it's not being used. But the more important thing is that it sounds good.

ha! I can't tell you how many times I've looked over at my left hand and been mortified to see my pinky sticking straight up! And I tell it to curl and it says to me, &%& off!

Next time I'll try to get some right hand in there. It's my observation though that the subtleties of the right hand don't show up that well in videos. I can tell you this: I use a pretty small pick these days, rotate it around a lot, choke up on it right smart, and plant or drag my pinky.

I have a youtube channel... I was looking at some of the videos to see if the left hand is more visible. These two might be most revealing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kl-JCWzOdtg

and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sVBeAQOofGY

In that last one there's at least a few places there that pinky straightens out!

Oh, this one might be most revealing about right hand approach. Though of course you can't see the pick angle stuff: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5sI2Hl2qOl0

Norman's Preferences

I saw a video in which Norman discussed why he preferred a certain fret when refretting one of his Martin's. I am about to refret my D-35 Martin, and I would like to know if anyone remembers a video in which Norman discusses his choice over the Frets Martin uses. Thank You.7See More
