Profile

Favorite Flatpickers
Gosh, so many greats to even single one out. I grew up on Doc Watson, Norman Blake, Dan Crary, Tony Rice, Russ Barenberg, and Dudley Murphy. Those are the top o' the list. But, I enjoy so many great flatpickers.
Favorite Flatpicking Tunes
Again, hard to sort out favorites. Stay tuned - I may put some up on video...
Favorite Guitars
1946 Martin D 28 herringbone, 1942 Gibson J 45 'bannerhead', Rockbridge slopeshoulder. I use Baden D styles in my live gig, though.
Tell us more about yourself (place a Bio here if you wish)
I am 42 and have been playing guitar since I was 5. I was raised in bluegrass and flatpicking guitar. I placed 3rd place at the Winfield nationals (1986 - 87). I have been the acoustic guitarist for country superstar Tim McGraw for the past 15 years - and I still love to flatpick.

Bob, I am the original owner of the J-45. I bought a 1965 SG Special first and then got the J-45 in late 1968 or 1969. I have owned both those guitars a long time. I paid $189 for the J-45 and worked all summer to pay $20 a week until I had it paid off.
My J-45 is in really nice condition and, even though I have thought about selling it from time to time, I have never been able to do it.
