Anyone else have problems fitting the guitar strap over the electric end pin jack on acoustic/electric guitars? I've asked music stores and strap manufacturers and neither seem to think it's a problem....but it is...
Here is my solution (again since I got all the info and pics done then clicked add reply and got a message saying this page isn't working right. Try again later grrrr)
I make my own adapters from a 4"X1" piece of leather (4-5oz or 2 mm) with a properly cut 7/16" hole and 3/4" slit which fits most enlarged end pin jacks. The other end uses a decorative, screw on concho to secure it to the end of the strap.
Here's what it looks like attached to my Taylor DDX
Good job DFB!...maybe you should market your idea. It even looks good.
Mine come with the concho complete for $10. I have brown leather and black leather
Very slick, Freddy!
The secret is not to glue the end pin into your guitar and then it can be easily removed and pushed through the strap. C&F Martin & Co advise, not mine
Kenneth, I think Downtown Freddy is talking about the end pin buttons with a female phone plug in the middle, which are not easily removable and often require a larger strap hole than the standard end pins.
Yes Ken...I am talking about the input jack pins that hold the strap and also allow the quarter inch input plug to connect to the electronics of the guitar. You can't take those plugs out to put the strap on or you will damage the electronics. These end pins are a larger circumference than the holes in guitar straps. I'm finding it difficult to believe that people don't understand or have never run into this problem. Does no one on this site buy acoustic/electric guitars? Every guitar I have bought over the last several years has built in electronics and have these end pins.
While I have never bought an acoustic/electric, all of my guitars have after-market pick-ups installed and some of them have larger buttons. I managed to get straps on all of them, but my cases are roomy enough that I never remove the straps.
My Goya has a endpin jack (pictured above) that's about the same size as a regular endpin button.
