For Fans of Flatpicking Guitar Magazine

I just wanted to give a little heads up and plug to what I have found to be a great little recorder for flatpickers. It is the Zoom H 2 recorder. It is simply an amazing little piece of gear, and for us flatpickers, it is a quick and quality sounding way to capture our ideas and performances.

It uses an SD card to capture files / folders, plus it has a number of mic combonations you can use. It comes with a table base and a nifty micstand adapter. And it is really affordable ($179.00 at Sweetwater Music).

I take it to my songwriting sessions and used it alot on the road playing bluegrass this year. It records bands in jams like a dream. I carried a pair of Sony headphones to use while recording some jam sessions, and it was amazing how good it all sounded. I also like to record my rhythm tracks to it to practice to.

Just wanted to introduce you all to it. I know there are others out there that cost more, but for the bang for buck ratio, this thing takes the cake. Here's a link to it:

Yes, Marv's Music is also a great place to get one.:-) I know Marv, and he takes care of his people, fer sure.
Check is in the mail Bob Actually I cant say enough good things about these recorders. I use mine extensively. I even recorded some of Bob Minners licks on mine when he was here this past summer.

The one beef about these recorders that I have heard is that the cases are fragile as compared to the Zoom 4. Zoom addressed this problem and they now sell Silicon jackets that fits nicely over the Zoom H2. They give a great cushion and good protection in case you drop it. I think Zoom should start including these with the H2s but for now you have to buy them separately. You can get them here:

Tim, yeah they are pretty sweet. Hope it works for you.
I agree 100%! I use mine all the time, for jams sessions, and for personal recordings at home. The quality is amazingly accurate and clear. I tried out the H4 but felt the toggle switch was difficult to use, and I didn't feel the need for multi-track recordings that the H4 is noted for.

Yeah Jeff, I agree. The H2 is much more user friendly than the H4.
I want to buy one of those recorders!
And I want to sell you one of these recorders..LOL

If you are in central Alberta in Canada, the are also available at the Acoustic Music Shop.
As nice a guy as Marv seems to be, I thought I'd mention a store in Canada, great store run by the inimitable Rod West.
These are also available at unbelieveable prices with lots of extras (like boom stands, thumb drives, large memory chips etc.) for LESS than the prices at any music store or outlet from.... Amazon.com and E-Bay. Check em out, save a buck or two.
I use the Zoom H4 myself and find it not user unfriendly at all. I've made some great jam session recordings with it. Steve Kilby
