Flat pick on the Eastern Shore of VA

Sure would like to play more fiddle tunes and less Bluegrass with other folk. I'm curious to see if I might hear from anyone in this area. I do manage to leave home and get a good dose going to Allegheny Echoes, Augusta, etc. But. Playing closer to home would be handy - not to mention the savings in gas. Call if you're in the area. 757-442-6008. Tom W.

Flatpicking Guitar Magazines and CDs

I exchanged e-mails with Dan Miller on this matter and he suggested I blog it, so here goes.

I have recently moved and find myself downsizing a number of things.

I have every Flatpicking Guitar magazine ever printed plus all the accompanying issue CDs (when they started) and I find myself needing to find a new home for this material. It is all in great shape having been kept in a climate controlled and smoke-free environment.

I don't know what this material… Continue

Music Festival

I have just returned July11,12,13 from the Big Horn Mountain Music Festival, in Buffalo Wy. What a great time, spending time in guitar seminars with Jeff Troxel and Kenny Smith. The great musicians were very inspirational and gave lots of great advise. Seeing friends and spending time listening to new musicians and making new friends is what I love about festivals. thanks to all who participated and I am looking forward to more in the future.

For the past several years Flatpicking Gutiar Magazine has sent out a monthly email newsletter to our email list. This newsletter has usually included a free flatpick lesson, as well as flatpick news, and sale events at flatpickingmercantile.com. In the past our monthly flatpicking lessons have been from a variety of sources and were quite haphazard. Starting in May 2008 Mickey Abraham, who was featured in our May/June 2008 issue, joins our staff as the regular email newsletter… Continue

Flatpicking

I have been reading FGM for several years and it is the best musicial venture of my life. Learning to play fiddle tunes has made my guitar playing so much more flavorable and interesting. The articles in the magazine are so informative and provide a lifetime of musicial material for studying. I am so glad I found this magazine and thanks to you Dan for the work you are doing.

1 3/4 vs. 1 11/16.....or anything else....

I'm just thinking, I have 3 guitars that are 1 and 7/8 or bigger, some that 1 3/4...and some 1 11/16...It's a bit difficult to go from one extreme to the other in a short period of time, but I haven't had a real problem. Seems like some folks are selling guitars because they want the 1 3/4 and have the 1 11/16....I just can't really tell the difference after I get a few minutes of playing in. My 1925 0018's neck is a bit like a club...bigger than my GE....but it sure feels good after a few… Continue

Need help

I'm looking for a really great player to push me beyond my current limits as a guitar player. I live in South Carolina but I'll be in Oklahoma for six weeks this summer. If anyone knows a great player/teacher in SC or OK I'd appreciate a heads up.

Love this forum idea. Love this site. Can't wait until it grows into everyone in our community.

Cheers.
