I've been asked often what might be the best beginner guitar as far as flatpicking is concerned. It has been my experience of playing several of the newer chinese made guitars that either a Silver Creek D size or a Blue Ridge D-size would make a good dependable beginner flatpicking guitar. It would aslo depend on your budget as too which one you should buy, a mahogany or rosewood model. Blue Ridge makes a BR-160A which features an Adirondack top that sounds great and will cost around $750 to $800 online. Can't go wrong there.
