Flatpicking Guitar Network

For Fans of Flatpicking Guitar Magazine

Hi fellow flatpickers, Steve Kilby here with my first blog post. I've been posting on Flatpick-L for a number of years now. Just wanted to let everyone here know about my Tune of the Month program. The details are on my website www.kilbymusic.com and we are right now having a Christmas sale on past volumes of Tune of the Month. Hope to be involved in some flatpicking blogs here and make many new friends. Steve Kilby

Steves' Tune of the Month series is by far the BEST Flatpick teaching item I have come across. But, for me, a beginner, it comes fast at one a month. The pace of each lesson is perfect for me and the way Steve breaks each tune into sections is great. I have found that by just following these tunes he has quietly had me moving and learning work up the neck.

I agree, although my exposure to flatpicking instructional content is pretty limited (there's a lot out there!). I bought the first series and learned Lonesome Fiddle Blues in a couple days using a combination of ear and tab reading. I liked it so much I bought some more. Loading the jam track into into ASD and looping makes for a nice open ended practice session with fine grained speed control.

I suggested "Tune of the Month" to Steve almost three years ago when he was visting St. Louis. They are easy to learn using Steve's methodical teaching style. They DO come fast, but you probably won't like every single tune, at least at first. As your proficiency builds, you'll like it more and more. HIGHLY recommended.

Hi Steve, I am a former tune of the month student of yours who just joined this Flatpick guitar network. I just wanted to let you know when I retire at the end of this year I will look forward to coming back on board your tune of the month club. I found it very helpful and fun. I am just so busy working howeve that I didn't have the time needed to really work on the tunes. That will change at the end of this year with retirement after 35 years of federal service, Yahoo! There will be much more time then for playing and hopefully continuing to grow more on the guitar. Best Wishes, Bill
