not lookin like it :( turns out, i've got to move into a new place this weekend. can't stand it! hopefully next year. lemme know how it goes! i should be at grove, ok june 5,6,7 though. that's not as big a flatpick contest, but it is one lol!
Nice to meet you too. I live in San Antonio about 3-4 hours from Houston. Hope we can get together to pick sometime. I really enjoyed your picking and love to see young folks of your generation embrace this style of music. I think in a very few years you will be up there playing as well as Carl - wasn't he amazing and inspiring? Wish you the very best!
sounds awesome man! i didn't place at grove, but met a guy named gary tremel and we're hoping to get toghether and jam. he doesn't live too far and apparently knew of me through here (flatpick.ning) before we went. seems like this thing is really pretty neat. i may go up to the kansas state flatpicking championship if i can swing it. maybe i'll see you there?
started working a week ago on the second half of east tennesse blues and tried to come up with something different for whiskey before breakfast. i've been accompanying my dad at fiddle contests for a few years and am just getting into flatpicking. second time i've done a contest lol! it's a great challenge for me and i want to do it lots more. it forces me to get better regardless of how i perform in the contest lol! it's funny to me how nervous i get when i'm going on stage to flatpick, but when i'm accompanying a fiddler, i feel no pressure whatsoever.
ha I know what you mean. It gets easier as you do it more. I thought I would be a wiseguy and play spanish point in the second round. That is a tough tune to play for 3 and a half minutes lol. I've since dropped it and angeline the baker for the next contest.
i'm not familiar with spanish point. why did you drop angeline the baker? too easy or something? i've gotten really frustrated the last couple days. it seems like my playing's actually getting worse. not sure if its cause i've been playing more than usual and my hands are tired or what, but i hope to break out of it soon. i've been doing some pinky excersizes and man i'm feelin it lol! hopefully it'll pay off in the long run
If you're goin through MS, you can get the real deal blues in a place called Senatobia. Just ask anyone where Willy Earl is playin that night and go see him. To get a personal aftershow and possible jam session just simply buy a handle of whiskey and he'll play all night. Definitely hit up an old juke joint in Mississippi. Hit up Birmingham City Stages if there in early June. Alabama Gravy Soppers is a good band too. Get ready to see the hottest women in the country in my opinion.
hey daniel! sorry it's been so long too respond to your comment. i don't believe i'll be able to make fire on the strings this year. i've already commited to something on may 17 :(. i'm going to plan on it one year, though. it sounds like a blast! anyway, i'm graduating college in may so i'm hoping to have more time to play now. how are you doing?
